In the golden autumn of October, the global Web3 community will once again focus on Shanghai. The fourth ETHShanghai conference will be held from October 18th to 22nd, 2025.
With the theme of "Expanding Ethereum, Shaping an Open Future", this conference is led by the Chinese builder community ETHPanda and co-organized by Wanxiang Blockchain Lab, PANews and TinTinLand. It will be held in the same city and at the same time as the Wanxiang Blockchain Global Summit, aiming to create a global innovation feast.
At that time, many guests including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and the foundation's new co-executive director Hsiao-Wei Wang will participate remotely, while industry leaders such as Nethermind founder and Ethereum Foundation co-executive director Tomasz Stańczak, Wanxiang Blockchain Chairman Xiao Feng and others will gather in Shanghai to discuss the next stage of evolution of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Summit: The intersection of ideas and technology
As the finale of the conference, the main summit on October 22 will be the ultimate stage for technical consensus and the collision of ideas. Currently, 22 global industry leaders are scheduled to give speeches, and they will engage in in-depth discussions on core topics such as Ethereum's expansion, modular ecosystem, developer growth, and long-term security. The conference will officially kick off with an opening speech by Xiao Feng, Vice Chairman of Wanxiang Holdings and Chairman of Wanxiang Blockchain. Following this, Vitalik Buterin will deliver an online keynote address, sharing his latest thoughts on Ethereum's future roadmap, the integration of AI and blockchain, and the evolution of the DeFi ecosystem. As the driving force behind Ethereum, Vitalik's every statement resonates deeply within the industry.
Following this, another highly anticipated keynote address will be delivered by Hsiao-Wei Wang, the newly appointed Co-Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation. Known for her deep technical background and extensive community experience, she has led the development of sharding and the Beacon Chain, making significant contributions to protocol layer evolution. Hsiao-Wei Wang's address will focus on Ethereum's technical sustainability and community-building model, providing insights into the Foundation's future strategic direction.
Afterward, ETHShanghai co-founder Bruce Xu will host a fireside chat with Tomasz Stańczak. As founder of Nethermind and co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, Tomasz has long been committed to optimizing the execution layer and promoting modular architecture. His presentation will focus on the "Future of Ethereum's Execution Layer and Ecosystem Collaboration," providing developers with systematic insights.
In addition, the summit will also set up a number of roundtable discussions, covering a number of hot topics such as L2 expansion, the integration of TradFi and Web3, AI applications, community contributions, etc., providing global builders with opportunities for exchange of ideas and cooperation.
Hackathon: Igniting Ethereum's Next Decade
Before the summit unveils its grand blueprint, a 72-hour offline hackathon will ignite innovation. As the innovation centerpiece of ETHShanghai, the hackathon, held from October 18th to 21st, aims to inject practical energy into Ethereum's next decade. Check-in and an opening ceremony will begin at 5:00 PM on the first day, followed by coding sessions. Keynote speeches will be held on the 19th and 20th, and project submission, pitch presentations, and judging will take place on the 21st. This hackathon aims to select approximately 100 top developers from over 500 applications worldwide and incubate 30 to 40 innovative projects.
The competition will focus on three cutting-edge tracks:
- AI × ETH – Following closely on the Ethereum Foundation’s lead in establishing the DAI team, we are exploring the integration of AI and Ethereum, including AI-driven on-chain agents, automated contracts, and governance innovations.
- DeFi × Infra — Focusing on RWA and modular infrastructure construction, promoting the intelligence and security of decentralized finance;
- Public goods × open source construction - encourage the construction of ecological underlying tools and collaborative frameworks to strengthen the sustainable development of open finance and public infrastructure.
The total prize pool is $15,000 USD. The champion teams in each track will have the opportunity to present their work on the main summit stage to top investment institutions. Participants must submit a complete GitHub code repository, a demo video, and proof of originality. The final winners will be announced during the conference. Young people set sail, sparks gather in Shanghai
The "Youth Voyage Program," a featured pre-conference event for the conference, has successfully concluded. Through travel sponsorship, community support, and resource connections, the program aims to lower the barrier for outstanding young developers in Asia to participate in top Web3 events, injecting fresh blood into the ecosystem.
Since its launch, the program has received an unprecedented response, with organizers receiving 154 highly competitive applications, far exceeding expectations and leading to an early closing of registration. After a rigorous screening process, over 30 outstanding young developers, including Clare Yang, Blue, Coooder, and karl4C, were selected. These "voyagers" will not only receive travel subsidies of up to $200 USD, but will also participate in the entire hackathon, competing with top developers from around the world. They will also have valuable opportunities to access the community talent pool, receive project referrals, and engage in in-depth discussions with core developers.
The "Youth Voyage Program" isn't new. It has already achieved significant success at previous Devcon and ETHGlobal Bangkok events, with funded teams securing a finalist spot (selected from the top 10 of over 700 projects) and winning 17 awards across multiple tracks, totaling over $22,000 in prize money. In April 2025, the program expanded to the Hong Kong Web3 Carnival, where Vitalik Buterin personally visited to engage with young developers, demonstrating the community's long-term commitment and support for youth power.
After Party: Bringing Innovation to a Successful End
Once all the agendas have been finalized, a relaxing after-party will bring the ETHShanghai journey to a successful conclusion. Injective, TinTinLand, ETHPanda, Wanxiang Blockchain, and PANews will host the after-party from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM on October 22nd, offering developers, project owners, and ecosystem partners an opportunity for relaxed networking. The event will include introductions to ecosystem partners and free socializing. Cocktails, music, and inspiration will bring the ETHShanghai journey to a successful conclusion and kick off a new journey of innovation.
Build an ecosystem together and shape the future together
ETHShanghai 2025 is not only a technological event but also a symbol of the Ethereum ecosystem's renewal. The Youth Voyage Program brings young Asian developers onto the global stage, hackathons spark innovation, and the main summit brings together leading thinkers like Vitalik, Hsiao-Wei Wang, and Tomasz Stańczak to jointly chart the technological blueprint for a decentralized future. Shanghai is becoming another global hub for Ethereum innovation.
