PANews reported on May 14 that according to Bitcoin.com, on May 13, the New Hampshire Department of Finance issued an announcement to remind residents to be vigilant against Bitcoin scam calls impersonating government officials. The scammers used fake official phone numbers, falsely claiming that the victim's identity was stolen, and induced them to "protect funds" through Bitcoin transfers. The state Department of Finance emphasized that government agencies would never ask for payment or transfers in the form of Bitcoin, and advised the public to hang up immediately after receiving such calls and report to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center.

A week before the warning was issued (May 6), New Hampshire had just passed the first "Strategic Bitcoin Reserve" bill in the United States, allowing the state treasury to allocate up to 5% of public funds to Bitcoin and other crypto assets with a market value of over US$500 billion.
