PANews reported on May 2nd that, according to Decrypt , the Minnesota legislature has passed a bill banning websites and apps from providing AI tools that can generate realistic fake nude images of identifiable individuals. The bill has been sent to Governor Tim Walz for his signature. The bill requires platforms to prohibit users from using or acting on behalf of others using "undressing" generation tools, and advertising and promotion of related services are also prohibited. Victims can sue the operators, seeking actual damages and up to three times the amount in damages plus punitive damages. The state attorney general can impose civil penalties of up to $ 500,000 for each violation, with the proceeds going to support services for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. If signed, the new law will take effect on August 1st and will only apply to cases occurring after that date.
