PANews reported on March 23 that US President Trump stated on Monday that the US and Iran held talks over the past day, reaching an agreement on "major issues," and that a deal to end the war could be reached soon. Trump said that his Middle East envoy, Witkov, and close aide and son-in-law, Kushner, spoke with Iranian officials on Sunday, and discussions would continue today. Trump stated, "We had very deep and intense discussions. We'll see how things develop next. We reached some consensus, you could say almost everything… We had very intense discussions, and Witkov and Kushner were involved. I would say that we could definitely reach an agreement, and we're at a stage where that possibility is emerging." He declined to reveal who the US had communicated with in Iran, but indicated it wasn't Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba. Trump stated that Iran "still has some leaders." Trump said, "The man we're facing, I think he's the most respected and most capable leader."
