PANews reported on May 14 that according to Rednet, recently, the Xiangtan police in Hunan Province successfully cracked down on a black and gray production gang that steals, maintains and sells accounts, arrested 24 criminal suspects, and seized more than 3,000 mobile phones used in the crime. The gang used "red envelopes for completing tasks" as bait to steal real-name authentication WeChat accounts of minors and resell them overseas through virtual currency transactions. The police investigation found that the gang used IoT cards to batch bind WeChat accounts and circumvented WeChat security mechanisms by forging risk warnings and sending verification codes at high frequencies. After "maintaining" the stolen WeChat accounts for 7 days, they were sold at prices ranging from 650 to 950 yuan according to the registration period. The gang leader Feng made an illegal profit of more than 1.2 million yuan. The case has been transferred to the procuratorate for review and prosecution. The police explained that the most common thing is that in the process of telecommunications network fraud, fraudsters use these purchased WeChat accounts under the names of others to commit telecommunications fraud. In fact, their criminal acts are constantly circulating in black and gray production crimes, that is, using one criminal method to supply another criminal method. The police remind people not to rent or sell personal social accounts to avoid becoming an accomplice of black and gray industries.
