PANews reported on April 5 that according to Jinshi, at 0:01 local time on Saturday (12:01 Beijing time), Trump's 10% tariff on all US imports officially took effect, and the equivalent tariff will take effect next Wednesday. The 10% base tariff took effect at US seaports, airports and customs warehouses, marking Trump's complete abandonment of the tariff rate system agreed with all parties after World War II.

Kelly Ann Shaw, a White House trade adviser during Trump's first term, said "this is the largest trade action in our lifetimes" and she expects the tariffs to change over time as countries seek to negotiate lower rates. "But this is a big deal. This is a huge and significant shift in the way we trade with every country in the world."
