PANews reported on May 14 that according to The Block, the U.S. Department of Justice formally sued two suspected leaders of the Beltrán Leyva Group, Pedro Inzunza Noriega and his son Pedro Inzunza Coronel, accusing them of participating in large-scale smuggling of drugs such as fentanyl and cocaine and terrorist acts. At the same time, blockchain analysis agencies found that the group used cryptocurrency to launder money and finance drug activities.

According to the Chainalysis report, the group paid more than $5.5 million to fentanyl manufacturers through stablecoins, and the US authorities have seized related assets. TRM Labs, Elliptic and other institutions pointed out that fentanyl raw material suppliers widely accept encrypted payments, and drug gangs have received tens of millions of dollars in cryptocurrencies.
