PANews reported on May 6 that according to the official blog of OpenAI, OpenAI announced that it will transform its for-profit entity into a "public benefit company" (PBC) to more effectively balance the company's mission and capital operations. The PBC will continue to be supervised and controlled by OpenAI's original non-profit organization, which will also become its major shareholder. OpenAI Board Chairman Bret Taylor and CEO Sam Altman said that this move was made after dialogue with the California and Delaware judicial departments, and is intended to ensure that the development of AI benefits all mankind, while enhancing the ability to mobilize funds to cope with the huge computing resources required in the AGI era.
