PANews reported on February 7 that according to The Block, the lawyer of former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky requested to postpone his sentencing after he pleaded guilty. In court documents filed on Wednesday, Mashinsky's lawyer requested to postpone the sentencing originally scheduled for April 8, 2025 by one month to May 8.

"The defense wants to ensure that it has adequate time to prepare a sentencing statement that accurately expresses Mashinsky's views on his criminal conduct, as well as the many other factors the court will need to consider in weighing an appropriate sentence," they said in the filing with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Mashinsky pleaded guilty in December to two criminal charges, including commodities fraud. Mashinsky was arrested in 2023 after prosecutors said he defrauded customers and misled them about the profitability of Celsius, which operated as a cryptocurrency lender that allowed customers to earn interest and apply for loans.
