PANews reported on May 8 that according to an announcement by the U.S. Department of Justice, Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa, a 35-year-old resident of Virginia, was sentenced to 30 years and four months in prison for funding the terrorist organization ISIS. Evidence shows that between October 2019 and October 2022, the defendant raised funds through social media and drove hundreds of miles in person to collect cash, then converted more than $185,000 into cryptocurrency and transferred it to Turkey, which eventually flowed to ISIS members in Syria. The funds were used to support ISIS militants and rescue detained female members. In December 2024, a federal jury found him guilty of five counts, including conspiracy to fund a foreign terrorist organization.
