PANews reported on April 28 that according to Cointelegraph, Ethereum Foundation researcher Dankrad Feist proposed EIP-9698 on April 27, planning to introduce a "deterministic gas limit growth plan" from epoch 369017 (around June 1). This is a four-year plan, and the proposal suggests that the limit will gradually increase by 10 times in the first two years (i.e. 164,250 epochs), until the last ten-fold increase. In theory, if the gas limit increases 100 times, Ethereum's TPS will be expected to increase to 2,000 transactions. The proposal must be voted on by the client before it can be implemented.
This expansion attempt is another important progress after the gas limit was increased from 30 million to 36 million in February. Feist pointed out that the gradual increase plan can leave enough time for node operators to optimize. At the same time, developers are testing the EIP-9678 proposal and plan to achieve a 4-fold increase in the gas limit in the Fusaka upgrade at the end of 2025.
