On March 13, 2024, Ethereum's Dencun upgrade was launched. The upgrade combines the Cancun upgrade of the execution layer and the Deneb upgrade of the consensus layer, and introduces nine Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). Its main goal is to enhance Ethereum's scalability and reduce the transaction costs of the Layer 2 network. According to YCharts data, Ethereum's average Gas fee has dropped from 72 gwei in 2024 to only 2.7 gwei on March 12, 2025.
