PANews reported on May 19 that according to Cointelegraph, Coinbase was sued by users for allegedly violating the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). The plaintiffs accused Coinbase of collecting, storing and sharing their facial recognition data without the user's written consent during the KYC process, and did not provide instructions for destruction. The lawsuit also pointed out that Coinbase transmitted the data to third-party verifiers such as Jumio, and it is suspected that more than 10,000 people have filed arbitration for this. The plaintiffs demanded $5,000 in compensation for each violation.
