Thailand will launch the TouristDigiPay program next Monday (August 18th), allowing foreign tourists to exchange cryptocurrencies for Thai baht for payment in an effort to boost tourism. Under the program, foreign tourists must open accounts with digital asset companies and e-money providers regulated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bank of Thailand, respectively. Wyoming's stablecoin WYST is scheduled to launch on August 20
The Wyoming Stable Coin Committee, a government-backed organization responsible for developing the WYST stablecoin, plans to launch its mainnet on August 20th, according to its latest monthly meeting minutes. The organization has yet to determine which of the 11 blockchains WYST will officially launch on: Aptos, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon, Sei, Solana, Stellar, and Sui. However, the first state-backed stablecoin may be launched on multiple blockchains.
According to the latest timeline, the organization plans to “migrate the WYST smart contracts to” a designated “candidate” blockchain. After that, the organization will conduct “production testing” by “funding a small WYST purchase using institutional funds and ensuring the end-to-end process is in place,” in preparation for a public launch scheduled for the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium in August.
