PANews reported on February 13 that according to Cointelegraph, US President Trump has nominated former Bitfury Chief Legal Officer Jonathan Gould as Director of the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), responsible for supervising the national banking system. The nomination was submitted to the Senate on February 11 for a term of five years.
Gould served as OCC chief legal counsel during Trump's first term (2018-2021) and also worked at BlackRock. He has a positive attitude towards the cryptocurrency industry and has criticized the Biden administration's bank regulatory actions that may restrict banks' cooperation with the crypto industry.
Industry insiders believe that Gould may promote improved banking service access for crypto companies after taking office and oppose the "Chokepoint 2.0" policy. In addition, the Trump administration is considering merging the regulatory functions of the OCC and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which may further affect the financial regulatory landscape.
